A stitch in time. . . Block 10 of the circa 1931 Friendship Quilt in the Museum of the Itawamba County Historical Society

KIVATTE, Mrs., Block 10

Without a given name, it is usually impossible to identify an individual from the census but Kivatte is so uncommon that a 1930 census search of Itawamba County gives but two possible names for "Mrs. Kivatte."

Mytte Kivatte, 30, wife of Henry Kivatte, 40, a farmer, in Beat 2 residing on the Tupelo-Kirkville Road is most likely the individual named on quilt block 10. Henry and Mytte both have Alabama origins and their household consisted of sons Ellson, 18, and Dowell, 16, and daughters Grace, 15, and Annie M., 14, and step-son Carl E. Manley, 14.

Another possibility is Kindless Kivatte, 18, wife of Alee Kivatte, 19, a farmer, Beat 5, who lived on the Fulton-Smithville Road. Kindless Kivatte was the mother of William H., 10 months.

NANNEY, Mrs., Block 10

"Mrs. Nanney" is either Mrs. Annie Nanney, 40, wife of Clifford Nanney (see Mrs. C. Nanney Block 36) or Vivian A Nanney, 43, wife of Dr. Newman W. Nanney (see information at Ruth Nanney, Block 19 below).

ROBISON, Cora Mrs., Block 10

Cora R. Robison, 54, is listed as the wife of Daniel P. Robison, 51, on the 1930 census of Itawamba County. The Robisons were enumerated on a farm in Beat 2 on Palestine-Baldwyn Road.

VOSS, Lena Mae Mrs., Block 10

No information has been found for Mrs. Lena Mae Voss.

If you have additional information about any of the names on this quilt square, please post a comment below. Your help is needed to "write" the story of this almost eighty-year old quilt.
